NTNC Newsletter

NTNC Newsletter | July 2020

Hello NTNC nurses,

Welcome NTNC nurses to the first quarterly e-newsletter. Allow me to introduce myself: I am Diana Fortune, TB Nurse Consultant for NTCA. I was thrilled to join the NTCA team in December 2019 and work approximately 16 hours per week.

A bit of history about me…..I graduated from Wichita State University in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and worked on a cardiac telemetry floor for the first 3 years of my nursing career. I then joined the United States Air Force as a nurse and moved to my beloved state of New Mexico. I have worked in numerous capacities over the years but found my true passion in public health and especially in the field of tuberculosis.

I would love to encourage everyone to become involved in NTNC on some level. I have served as the secretary and then president of NTNC and then when I became the program manager for New Mexico DOH I served on the NTCA board as an incident level representative, secretary and I am finishing off my last year as past NTCA Board President. Serving on the boards is a terrific way to participate on a national level in promoting public health, the value of TB programs and especially the patients that we care for.

My goal for this e-newsletter is to make it interactive and informative for all of the TB Nurses who are members of the National TB Nurse Coalition! If you are not a member and wish to become one, that can be easily accomplished through the NTCA membership portal.

If you are a current member take just a moment to review your membership profile to ensure you have checked NTNC. You must indicate that you want to be part of the NTNC section if you want to vote in the upcoming election.

The World Health Organization declared 2020 “The Year of the Nurse and Midwife”. Nurses and midwives account for more than 50% of the global workforce. To celebrate and honor TB Nurses in the United States, the NTNC Board wanted a T-shirt that can be worn proudly by TB nurses everywhere. In this issue, NTNC will share two designs developed based on ideas received from the board. Click below to return to the online newsletter an see the designs and cast your vote!

The T-shirt design with the most votes will be our official NTNC Year of the Nurse T-shirt and will be available to wear during the opening nursing-led session of the Virtual National TB Conference on September 18.

Now, let me introduce all of the terrific nurses who are NTNC board members and have served as NTNC leadership for the past year. I wish to thank them for their terrific guidance and service.
